From Brazil to Stony Brook (USA) and then NRC (Canada): Professional Life Lessons in Thermal Spraying

EVENT DETAILS

Dr Lima received his Bachelor’s degree in physics and a Master’s degree in materials engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). From 1998 to 2001 he pursued his PhD studies in thermal spray (materials science & engineering) at State University of New York at Stony Brook (USA); under the mentorship of Prof. Chris Berndt. Right after obtaining his PhD in 2001, he joined the Thermal Spray Team of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), where he is currently holding the title of Senior Research Officer; in addition to being the current President of the Thermal Spray Society (TSS). The talk is dedicated to students, post-docs and early career researchers in thermal spraying and surface engineering. The speaker will share some of the professional life lessons he learned along the way, from Brazil to USA and then Canada. Hopefully these professional life lessons may give some guidance to our young professionals during these very turbulent times of early 2020s.
