Dr Steve Dowey, is the Technology Manager at Sutton Tools, an Industry Fellow, Senior Lecturer at RMIT University, and the founder of The Smart Enough Factory.  After serving in the Royal Air Force he gained a BEng and PhD from Hull University and worked with SCADA, PVD coating and associated equipment development for cutting tool and semi-conductor applications. Steve implemented a low cost, low code Industry 4.0 framework at Sutton Tools and by working with the Australian Defence Materials Technology Centre and Partners created The Factory in a Box. Steve’s Industry 4.0 focus is therefore on the “The Smart Enough Factory”, where the issues of cost, security and STEM skills are addressed to ensure the benefits of Industry 4.0 can reach the Australian SME, that is: Low Cost, Low Code, and Low Risk Digitalisation.

Mr Jeff Lang is an experienced senior executive and technologist in R&D of advanced manufacturing technologies and implementation of automated manufacturing operations in Australia, Europe and Asia. As a corporate and innovation visionary, Jeff has led multiple efforts in the development of future advanced technologies by driving a culture of “outside the box” thinking to successfully manage collaborations and partnerships in advanced technologies and product innovation. Jeff assists companies and organisations with creative solutions and resolution by analysis of conceptual ideas and products to effectively transfer new technologies through to commercialisation.

Professor Alan Duffy is Lead Scientist of the Royal Institution of Australia and astronomer at Swinburne University of Technology, Professor Duffy is the inaugural Director of the Space Technology and Industry Institute at Swinburne, finding ways to use space to help companies and communities on Earth. Alan is also the cofounder and CEO of mDetect Pty Ltd, a spinout company from his research that uses particles from space to scan through rock for mineral exploration, identification of structural weaknesses in tailings dams, and subsidence/air gaps below critical infrastructure.
